I might have vetoed Steve’s decision to pick this one a year ago, but after the way I talked up Scent of a Woman as one of the best prep school films of the 90s, he made me want to eat those words. Debt to Cinema 095: Detention (2011)
Its not everyday that a piece of media aims to de(con)struct the genre/subcategory it falls into, but of the last 20 years, most of the best satire has come from films of that ilk. Scream, Last Action Hero, Cabin in the Woods, Scott Pilgrim, and now Joseph Kahn’s crazy, fast, smorgasbord of the milennial high school experience cements weird is good and 90s nostalgia is better! #IdBuyThatForADollar
Debt to Cinema 083: Bio-Dome
Given that I picked Cheech and Chong last year for 4/20, Steve naturally thought this Pauly Shore vehicle was my stoner duo follow up, but Bio-Dome is through and through a celebration of Earth Day. I strongly defend this “worst film of all time” nominee in the episode and challenge any critic, or wannabe, to listen to my thoughts and give this underrated Generation X, buddy comedy a shot.

We’ve been nice overall when it comes to sharing our opinions of Adam Sandler’s recent offerings, not seeing the point in beating a dying horse, but after two hiccups on Netflix, Happy Madison has finally delivered something totally likeable. When that conversation trails off we split hairs over the Thor Ragnarok trailer (27:16) before doing a live reaction to the Star Wars Battlefront 2 reveal (33:51), followed by my showstopping Goodwill movie haul (37:46) and impressions of Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN (44:17). Finally Steve caught Poltergeist in 70mm (48:58) and Gods of Egypt (51:24), while I saw The Accountant (55:29) and a double bill of We Are the Best and Los Punks (59:23).
