Dollar Reviews 033: Cameraperson
After several weeks of self reflection, and the realization that Two Cents can’t exist in its bloated format forever, Steve and I decided to revive our original show with recent streaming titles. Its only fitting that we would return in this way with Kristen Johnson’s docu-memoir, a Criterion Collection addition from last year available on Amazon Prime about how a life of filming documentaries influences the people involved/the inherent manipulation of reality at play. Also, in Penny Thought’s return to DR I caught Father’s Little Dividend (37:45) and some good magazine articles.
A Few Dollars More 006: Elle
We’ve started the year off with a fascinating thriller which a spoiler-free review sadly doesn’t do justice for, but as luck would have it, we have a separate show (this one) made for situations such as these. There’s a lot to ponder in this mind fuck of a rape flick; join us as we try to make sense of it all while praising its enigma.

If the name Paul Verhoeven doesn’t mean anything to you, chances are you’ve never thought about our site’s branding. Robocop is one of those films that just gets me, so finally having the chance to not only catch it’s director’s latest work, but also review something of his for the first time, was a special treat for us. Given the nature of this flick, we are mum on details, but you can tune into A Few Dollars More for the juicier conversation.

I didn’t exactly see the point in discussing this festival darling at greater length, but I think Steve was secretly hinting my recent romance might lead to an interesting discussion. Dollar Reviews 030: La La Land
La La Land – both a nickname for Hollywood and the transcendental place couples live in when everything is perfect. In a world where everyone can be a celebrity, this third pairing of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone reminds us why we go the movies in the first place. These star crossed lovers make Damien Chazelle’s landmark re-imagining of the movie musical sparkle in a time where song and dance are rarely coupled anymore. For so many reasons this has been sweeping the 2016 award season and it deserves all the money #IdBuyThatForADollar
Two Cents 073: Penny For Your Thoughts
The week in which we share our Thanksgiving/Black Friday events, Legendary snatched Dune rights, I rewatched Step Up because its sixth installment is going to be Chinese, Steve caught Arrival, Somewhere in Time, and The Lunchbox (one of my faves of 2014), Amazon might be getting into the live sports game, our roadmap for the end of cable, and Dave Chappelle joins Chris Rock for big Netflix dollars. Plus, Tesla is going to power an entire island with clean energy, Alt-right douchebags becoming nazis, a Dick Cheney biopic, Deadpool 2 and comedy sequels being lazy, and Snowpiercer becoming a TNT show.
Two Cents 065: VR Tech n’ Spec (Feat. Greg Krish)
The episode in which I finally have someone on that knows what VR is so I begin by asking him lots of things about working in the new medium, SanDisk created a 1TB SD card, Palmer Luckey has a fall from grace, Dalian Wanda is teaming with Sony on their tentpoles, music streaming is equally as profitable as sales now, AT&T’s DirecTV net neutrality no-no’s, Pokemon GO and Snapchat’s role in AR’s adoption, and the future of advertising/marketing in the VR age. Plus, Dawson’s Creek, VCRs, lactose intolerance, virtual reality’s lack of content & governance, parents not understanding the dangers of early VR exposure, VR gambling coming to casinos, and almost no film conversation at all.

We begin with the latest experiment in Kevin Smith’s post “I don’t give a fuck,” weed fueled leg of his career – the famous daughter starring, teen scream, Yoga Hosers. Then I gush over Wes Craven’s underrated New Nightmare (38:09), Steve tries to make you gasp with Don’t Breathe (46:29) and The Time Machine (49:26), then I give a freeze frame of Demolition Man (54:49) and House of 1000 Corpses (56:09). Finally I quickly scoop Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1’s betas (1:04:18) before sharing the latest sonic stylings of Frank Ocean and Vince Staples (1:07:09).
Dollar Reviews 026: Suicide Squad/Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition (Feat. Cynical Cartoons)
We begin with David Ayer’s new, Snyder-less approach to the DC Extended Universe before diving into BvS (57:30) for a third, and final, time on the show, and close with a tease for the guest spot I made on Tyler’s show for The Killing Joke (01:48:00). Also, given that critics unanimously despise both these films I felt it necessary to rehash my gripes with the Rotten Tomatoes system and the clusterfuck which is contemporary film criticism (46:10).
