The episode in which two weeks have passed since our last recording and I have open with a horror story to explain why, we mourn Don Rickles and Charlie Murphy, MGM joins the vertical integration party, Cannes adds TV and VR content + a Palme D’or race filled with streaming titles, and my pitch to Universal for where Fast and the Furious goes next. Lots of news on upcoming projects, especially superheroes, Adam McKay, Tim Burton, and Labyrinth, how Amazon is funding its space exploration, and conversation on how our podcast makes film viewing seem like work. Also, my thoughts on The Founder, Moonlight, SportsBar VR, and Girlschool DJ night; and Steve’s on some Amazon docs, Bone Tomahawk, and I Know Who Killed Me. Plus, AT&T/Time Warner might have competition between Comcast adding cellular lines to its family and Verizon possibly buying Charter Communications, Oscar nominations, the next projects from Jeremy Saulnier and James Ponsoldt, and the first UHD Blu-ray drives are coming to PCs.

The episode in which I return from my day off, Wanda plans to buy one of the major Hollywood studios, the trials and tribulations of Birth of a Nation, VR finding a place in the court room, the problem with music streaming exclusives, HBO signing the first triple coverage TV deal with AT&T, Fast 8’s on set drama (and its rumored WWE end), Doug Liman leaving Marvel for DC, Fox’s X-Men franchise status quo, and my fanboy dream of the DCEU. Plus, lots of Spiderman talk, Playstation coverage, the importance of Blade, my continued championing of the return of the mystery genre, and an exploration of why 3D paved the way for VR.

Plus, Lionsgate isn’t done making Saw films, Star Wars VR projects, VR headset exclusivity featuring Samsung, Flixtapes, and Nintendo turning a new leaf.

The week in which Steve has to leave early so I finish by myself (boom), Terry Gilliam is finally filming his Don Quixote, Nintendo is going to adapt their characters, DC on The CW is going to have a huge crossover event, the Angry Video Game Nerd refuses to watch the new Ghostbusters, Warner Bros has made Geoff Johns their own Kevin Feige for DC Films, Harley Quinn might be leading a female flick, and Universal is making another cinematic universe. Plus, Netflix airing Narcos on TV, IMAX bringing VR to the masses, BitTorrent launched a live streaming platform, Google I/O coverage especially Daydream VR, Motorola is bringing the RAZR back, and Kevin Smith is adapting Buckaroo Banzai for TV.

The episode in which North Carolina is cut off from porn, AMC Theaters let the internet scare them away from making smartphone friendly auditoriums, Fandango is changing the ticketing game, Avatar is now getting 4 sequels, Mark Rylance is Steven Spielberg’s new favorite actor, Pokemon might get the live action treatment, and the Loch Ness Monster was found. Plus, we dedicate a section just to superhero news (#Batfleck), speculate about Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs, Sony’s Emoji movie doesn’t sound horrible, Star Trek Beyond in Barco Escape, another Fahrenheit 451 adaptation, and the return of Warren Beatty.

The week in which Nahneen Kula put out her first album, Steven is way too excited about Daredevil, The Wachowski Siblings are both transwomen now, The Russo Brothers are making a Chinese studio, Kevin Spacey leaves Relativity, Paramount drops The Little Prince, Amazon is adopting Hollywood norms, and the industry might be moving into the living room, while Ang Lee is set to debut his technical marvel (4K/3D/120FPS/HDR). Plus, Rio 2016 is going 8K, TV in VR, Amazon is becoming the new HSN, Harry Styles starring in the next Christopher Nolan flick, filmmaker relationships with the streaming giants, reactions to the new Spidey and Gordon, Where’s Waldo, Nick Cage, and Damien Chazelle’s musical getting an awards release.
Two Cents 037: Co-host Switcheroo (w/Scream 101)
The episode in which I was lucky Brennan from Scream 101 Podcast joined me because Steve fell asleep before recording, HBO isn’t sending Game of Thrones screeners out anymore, the 21 Jump Street/Men in Black flick is still a thing, Sony is making a standalone Venom franchise, I talk cool additions to the Amazon Echo line (and Brennan has first hand experiences), and Universal Japan is making a Nintendo Land. Plus, VR is coming to Six Flags and McDonalds, I do my Michael Keaton impression, MAX LANDIS, a WWE sequel to Surf’s Up, and the continuing adventures of Steven Soderbergh’s “retirement.”

This episode was our last chance to stuff things in before doing our Best of 2015 show. We start off with 2016’s first big movie, Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, then move into Bryon playing catch up: Victoria (10:01), Sicario (13:19), Wild Tales (18:42), The Big Short (22:21), The Danish Girl (25:19), Crimson Peak (35:18), The Intern (40:56), Spotlight (45:58), The Lobster (54:18), and The Gift (58:45). Finally we close with Steve rewatching The Walk at home in 3D (1:05:41).
