Debt to Cinema 029: Freddy Got Fingered

Ripped straight from the headlines of Two Cents 040, I made Steve watch what he basically claims is the cinematic equivalent of waterboarding. This is our most divisive episode yet and probably the most telling of our personalities (followed by Anomalisa’s AFDM). Consider this a warm up for Bio-Dome.

Dollar Reviews 018: Everybody Wants Some!!/Knight of Cups

Steve and I caught two massively different indie flicks from auteurs miles apart for your listening pleasure this week. The first of which is a throwback to what made Richard Linklater famous, while the second is another step down the rabbit hole for Terrence Malick (16:30). Plus Steve gives his take on Too Late (28:37), Hush (34:43), and Eye in the Sky (37:57) while I dish on Supergirl’s crossover with The Flash (41:50).

Dollar Reviews 017: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I caught a midnight screening and a guest host to get this episode out to you Friday morning because I was so excited. You’d probably hear it in my voice if this was a Batman, Superman, or Trinity film, but instead we got DC’s gritty, intellectual Iron Man 2.

Debt to Cinema 027: The Passion of the Christ

For the first time since 2012, David Junco returns to help us review Mel Gibson’s controversial origin story of the Easter Bunny. Join us for this borderline sacrilegious episode that’s full of so much passion it practically hurts.

Editor Note: Its pretty ironic that the original file was dead, then resurrected on Easter

Debt to Cinema 026: Daredevil (Director’s Cut)

This week Steve finally got me to watch Mark Steven Johnson’s cut of that other Ben Affleck superhero movie everyone always shits on. As a fan of the theatrical cut, I was satisfied with the version I grew up with, but agreed the timing with this month’s related releases was too perfect to pass on.

Dollar Reviews 015: 10 Cloverfield Lane

Eight years later, and shrouded in just as much mystery, JJ Abrams has unleashed another monster on filmgoers. Allow us to illuminate you on this quasi-sequel while still keeping you in the dark.

Debt to Cinema 024: In the Heat of the Night

Given that #OscarsSoWhite is a thing, its important to remember not every black Best Picture winner is Driving Miss Daisy. We knew we had to see this one eventually, but 2015’s film politics just made it that more appealing.

Dollar Reviews 014: Carol/The Invisible Man

This week I caught Todd Haynes’s Carol, we both had new experiences with Claude Rains as The Invisible Man (08:40), Steve caught Fritz Lang’s Fury (24:12) + Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (27:25) at the Alamo Drafthouse, and I rewatched one of my favorite movies of 2015, Magic Mike XXL (37:35).

Debt to Cinema 023: Robocop 3 (w/Cynical Cartoons)

I met Tyler from Future Horse Podcast and knew we had to do a RoboCop double feature when he caught the reference to the savior of Detroit in our name. So I skipped the first sequel and made Steve watch this PG-13 trainwreck (perhaps as a little payback for The Star Wars Holiday Special) for his second foray against OCP.

Dollar Reviews 013: The Witch/Love/The Life of Pablo

This week Steve caught The Witch (aka “the best horror flick of 2016”) while I binged on Netflix’s Love (5:08) and Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo (10:40). Plus I watched the pilot for HBO’s Animals (19:04) and Steve saw Candyman (22:15) and Bloodstream (30:25).
