Plus, the future of the living room, more news on the PS4K, The Twilight Zone returning as interactive media, Paramount’s all-star writers room for the shared Hasbro universe, blockbuster fatigue, and internet response to whitewashing.
Dollar Reviews 019: Green Room/Sing Street/Jungle Book
This under the radar, music double feature episode begins with Jeremy Saulnier’s punks vs nazis thriller, Green Room (03:29), then gets a much needed dose of sunshine from John Carney’s 80s musical sendup, Sing Street (22:13). Plus Steve re-watched The Little Prince (32:28) and I caught Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book in 3D (32:55) which leads to fun convo about the state of CGI (40:03).

If I’ve learned anything from this show its that Steve doesn’t exactly get comedy. I can’t fault him for thinking Freddy Got Fingered is the second coming of the plague, but surely he must appreciate the original stoner duo, right? International Pot Smokers Day is the perfect time to find out.
Two Cents 043: Bright Lights, Big Shitty (Theater Experience)
The episode in which North Carolina is cut off from porn, AMC Theaters let the internet scare them away from making smartphone friendly auditoriums, Fandango is changing the ticketing game, Avatar is now getting 4 sequels, Mark Rylance is Steven Spielberg’s new favorite actor, Pokemon might get the live action treatment, and the Loch Ness Monster was found. Plus, we dedicate a section just to superhero news (#Batfleck), speculate about Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs, Sony’s Emoji movie doesn’t sound horrible, Star Trek Beyond in Barco Escape, another Fahrenheit 451 adaptation, and the return of Warren Beatty.
Debt to Cinema 030: Rope
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this film a couple of times on the show, either in my review of Victoria, or just in passing; but I got a special amount of satisfaction in having Steve pick a classic that I had the good fortune of seeing despite my limited exposure to Classical Hollywood, let alone Hitchcock’s filmography. This is an absolute gem that needs to be seen, even if only one of us is keen on the particulars outside of the technical wonderment.
Two Cents 042: Life, The Universe, and Everything
The episode in which my car gets broken into again, The Muppets are playing Outside Lands, Seth Rogen is adapting another comic book for TV, Warners has decided in favor of more DC instead of risks, Marvel is going to Freeform and Sony, while not staying true to itself, reactions to Rogue One’s first trailer, Starz joins the OTT train, and 4K UHD Blu-rays are becoming a clearer picture. Plus, sports broadcasting on Twitter and Yahoo/the latter being acquired, VR being used for real world applications, Pharrell is producing Hidden Figures, Charlize Theron re-teaming with past directors, and Caitlyn Jenner appearing on Transparent.

Ripped straight from the headlines of Two Cents 040, I made Steve watch what he basically claims is the cinematic equivalent of waterboarding. This is our most divisive episode yet and probably the most telling of our personalities (followed by Anomalisa’s AFDM). Consider this a warm up for Bio-Dome.

Plus, viewing your StubHub seat and saving cats in VR, Amazon Prime going monthly, a Sicario sequel, Jonah Hill is trying directing, several re-teamings, and Marti Noxon is making major moves.
