Of their many monsters, Universal has seemed most interested in keeping The Mummy alive forever. Between this weekend’s Dark Universe re-reboot with Tom Cruise, the original Karloff features, and of course this debt, Stephen Sommer’s turn of the century swashbuckling, treasure seeking, adventure that kicked off a trilogy, it appears opening the sarcophagus is always a good idea #DimeADozen
Dollar Reviews 034: Power Rangers
Mighty morphing tentpole franchises invade your ears this week as we open with Saban’s Power Rangers before I jump ship to Kong: Skull Island (45:55). I also give my first impressions of Rocket League’s Dropshot mode (53:35) and brag about my latest thrift store finds (57:47); while Steve caught Jeff Nichols’s Loving (59:03) and the forgotten Paul Walker thriller, Into the Blue (1:04:00).
Two Cents 088: Feline Like Something Mew
The episode in which I try to keep this show alive by dumping Penny Thoughts back onto Dollar Reviews (and doing that weekly again via streaming titles), I make my first retractions, Superman joins Mission: Impossible, Fandango takes aim at Mondo, and Sony says goodbye to the PS3/hello again to VR as more join the fray. Steve caught up on The Edge of Seventeen, Raw, and 2014’s Beauty and the Beast; while I was enamored by Kedi, pumped out Drake’s More Life, experienced Step Up 3D within PSVR, and finally beat Sly Cooper. More importantly, Sony is making a Venom movie, Warner Bros is rebooting The Matrix, Fox is remaking The Fly, and Netflix is re-sharting pan and scan.
Dollar Reviews 025: Ghostbusters (2016)
Despite telling ourselves, and each other, that we wouldn’t see Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, we caught the she-make anyway. Also, Steve saw 1988’s Uninvited (34:28), I trounced around Goodwill and started The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (39:50), terrified myself with Scare PewDiePie (41:36), and listened to the new Avalanches (43:40) and Blood Orange (46:05) albums. Finally Steve caught Tickled (47:32) which leads into a great conversation about documentary filmmaking.
Two Cents 037: Co-host Switcheroo (w/Scream 101)
The episode in which I was lucky Brennan from Scream 101 Podcast joined me because Steve fell asleep before recording, HBO isn’t sending Game of Thrones screeners out anymore, the 21 Jump Street/Men in Black flick is still a thing, Sony is making a standalone Venom franchise, I talk cool additions to the Amazon Echo line (and Brennan has first hand experiences), and Universal Japan is making a Nintendo Land. Plus, VR is coming to Six Flags and McDonalds, I do my Michael Keaton impression, MAX LANDIS, a WWE sequel to Surf’s Up, and the continuing adventures of Steven Soderbergh’s “retirement.”

The episode in which Ziggy Stardust and Hans Gruber are no longer with us, The Rams move back to LA, Ready Player One has an open casting call, Apple is rumored to be killing the headphone jack, China acquires Legendary, Netflix makes too many moves to type out, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Ryan Coogler helming Black Panther, Infinity War having 67 characters, DC making a WWI Wonder Woman movie, Disney’s shortlist for Young Han Solo, J-Law backlash, the Jumanji remake’s rushed production, Ava DuVernay moving to TV, 24 getting a reboot, and Hugh Hefner getting a docuseries.

The episode in which I can’t understand why the fuck this movie was made and Steve tries to figure out if the originals are even worth a watch now.
S2E10: Terminator Genisys
Arnold said he would be back, and he is! So is a lot from the franchise that was awesome – too bad someone can’t go back in time to fix the things this reboot does so wrong and make it fun again.
S2E5: Jurassic World
Steve and I stopped by our film school pal Hamid’s place just walking distance from our alma mater to talk about the colossal box office reboot beast responsible for the culinary hybrid which is dinosaur nuggets. What will Universal cook up this time?
