Debt to Cinema 067: Mixed Nuts

Everyone has that wacky relative, or literally insane friend who keeps things interesting. Well, what if Nora Ephron wrote and directed what Christmas in the company of an entire group of nuts would be like? Its a mixed bag to put it nicely, which is shocking given the skill of the filmmakers and cast on hand. I may have purchased a copy of this one for 25 cents, but a quarter might have been a little too much.

Two Cents 073: Penny For Your Thoughts

The week in which we share our Thanksgiving/Black Friday events, Legendary snatched Dune rights, I rewatched Step Up because its sixth installment is going to be Chinese, Steve caught Arrival, Somewhere in Time, and The Lunchbox (one of my faves of 2014), Amazon might be getting into the live sports game, our roadmap for the end of cable, and Dave Chappelle joins Chris Rock for big Netflix dollars. Plus, Tesla is going to power an entire island with clean energy, Alt-right douchebags becoming nazis, a Dick Cheney biopic, Deadpool 2 and comedy sequels being lazy, and Snowpiercer becoming a TNT show.

Two Cents 040: Ounces to Freedom

The episode in which not only Batman v Superman upset the critics, but DC is Rebirth-ing their comics again, Hollywood might boycott Georgia, Midnight Rider’s director has been let out of jail, Steve talks about MoviePass, Hulk Hogan/Erin Andrews and the future of The First Amendment, and a man was arrested over Freddy Got Fingered. Plus, Pornhub and Hulu have gone VR, Vizio has reinvented the smart TV, we dream up the ultimate digital movie watching experience, Taylor Kitsch is now a writer/director, the two sides of black movies, and some TV stuff you probably won’t listen long enough to hear.

Debt to Cinema 022: You’ve Got Mail

This might be our list of shame show, but I have no shame in placing this on my list of favorites. This may not be an amazing film, but there’s something perfect about. Maybe its just them – the quintessential romcom couple of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan; or Nora Ephron perfecting her style. Either way, this product placement infused, remake is necessary watching and I finally made Steve see it.

Jan 31 2016 – The episode in which hype builds for The Birth of A Nation, The Academy’s possible move to digital screeners, Hamilton is coming to Los Angeles, ILM’s X LAB Holo-Cinema, Star Wars Episode IX is shooting on film, Fox making domestic noir/murder mystery projects, Kathryn Bigelow re-teaming with Mark Boal, Meg Ryan moving to the director’s chair, Taika Watiti/the future of Marvel, the Blade Runner sequel, more Sundance acquisitions, Apple joining the VR game (and Google taking a bigger leap), the secret mobile ticketing arms race, Hulu becoming a hipster heaven, global competitors to Netflix, the white Michael Jackson roadtrip TV movie, and the CW airing eSports in primetime.
